During July and August I made my first trip to Asia since January 2020 and the COVID pandemic.
I passed through Dubai on the way to Singapore, then onto Seoul, then Tokyo and finally coming back through Hong Kong. All airports were busy and active, all flights busy and full. I really had the sense that we were getting back to pre COVID levels. The energy and positivity in all my meetings in all four countries was very motivating.
Clearly everyone is still waiting for the Chinese consumer to come back in numbers, but there are plenty of consumers out there who are purchasing, and very importantly purchasing up to more expensive items.
One of those items they are now purchasing is our very own Cape Diversity Gin – pictured here at Lotte Duty Free Changi, Singapore duty free shops where it was launched in May 2023.
Thanks to the Lotte merchandising team for some great product placement throughout the four terminals.
Cape Diversity Gin is inspired by the Cape Floral Kingdom, located in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the smallest of the six floral kingdoms in the world.
Though the smallest, it has the largest plant variety of all the floral kingdoms with 9,000 plant species, 70% of which only grow in this region. The majority are native ‘fynbos’ vegetation, an Afrikaans word meaning “fine-leaved plants”, which covers the region’s magnificent mountains, lowland valleys and coastal plains. The purity of this region—the nature, diversity, beauty and uniqueness—is captured in our limited-batch, hand-crafted Cape Diversity Gin.
